The Northwest Kemper Water Association came into being shortly after a group of concerned citizens approached Senator John C. Stennis requesting funding to support the building for a rural water association. On May 1, 1968 a telegram was sent from Senator Stennis’ office informing this group that the Northwest Kemper Water Association had been approved for a $65,700.00 grant and a loan for $188,000.00 both to be provided by the Farmers Home Administration. The availability of these funds set in motion a long series of events that has grown one of the best water associations in Mississippi.
